How to land that dream job when you lack certain skills

This was an interesting article I came across online that discussed alternative careers should you not be able to land your dream job. For example, if you are a sports fanatic but are unable to pursue a career as an athlete, then consider a job on the sidelines within the same industry such as working in an agency that handles sports related accounts or as a sports writer or commentator.

I found the article to be very insightful and certainly great advice however I also wondered if I would be able to carry on a career working on the sidelines. Let’s just say that I wanted to be an actor (well..don’t we all at some point!?) but I couldn’t pursue my dream for whatever reason so I go ahead and become a make-up artist or a PR person for a famous actor. Would that satisfy me or would I be resentful? I mean, there would be a constant reminder of what I wanted to do – my dream – all around me all day every day so I wonder if I would truly be happy working in a career on the sidelines..

That’s just my 2 cents.. what do you think? Would you consider pursuing a career on the sidelines or would you change tracks and pursue something different altogether?
